Fidan to Represent Turkey at First Board of Peace Meeting

(MENAFN) Hakan Fidan, Turkish Foreign Minister, will attend the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace in Washington on Thursday, representing President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Turkish Foreign Ministry announced Wednesday.

Fidan is expected to emphasize Türkiye’s commitment to a determined resolution of the Palestinian issue and to reaffirm support for initiatives aimed at peace in Gaza. He will likely call for Israel to end ceasefire violations and ensure uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid, while reaffirming Türkiye’s continued humanitarian support and readiness to contribute to reconstruction efforts in the region.

At the meeting, Fidan is also expected to highlight Türkiye’s willingness to participate in international mechanisms designed to safeguard the rights and security of Palestinians, and to urge action against Israeli policies in the West Bank, including the expansion of illegal settlements and settler violence. He is also anticipated to reaffirm Türkiye’s support for a two-state solution.

President Erdogan previously confirmed Fidan’s participation while returning from an official visit to Ethiopia. The Board of Peace, established to advance a peaceful settlement in the Gaza Strip and promote global peacemaking, held its charter signing on Jan. 22 during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, with 19 countries represented. Additional states have since joined the initiative.

The first meeting at the leaders’ level is scheduled for Feb. 19 in Washington, DC, although Moscow has ruled out participation.
