Turkish Defense Firm to Launch Medium-Caliber Cannon in US Market

(MENAFN) Turkish defense company SYS Group plans to introduce a medium-caliber revolving cannon to the United States, offering a new alternative to weapons currently in use.

At the World Defense Show (WDS) 2026 in Riyadh, SYS Group and its affiliates—CANiK, AEI Systems, and UNIROBOTICS—showcased a range of defense solutions, including light arms, medium-caliber artillery, and systems for both naval and land platforms.

Urku Aral, CEO of SYS Group-CANiK, told a news agency that the company will demonstrate its 30×113-millimeter weapon later this year in partnership with US firm General Dynamics.

Speaking on the sidelines of WDS 2026, he described the European-style revolving cannon as a unique option for land vehicle integration, differing from the chain or Gatling guns commonly used in the US.

Aral projected that US production could reach 100,000 units in 2026, up from 65,000 last year. He said the Florida-based plant is preparing to add a third shift by March and plans to use automation to manage costs.

The company’s US expansion builds on its growth in the Middle East. SYS Group intends to collaborate with General Dynamics Land Systems to offer the 30-millimeter cannon for Saudi Arabia’s defense vehicle modernization programs. The weapon is compatible with M789 ammunition, the standard round for Apache helicopters, simplifying logistics for Saudi forces.

“The 30 by 113-millimeter is the highest caliber that can be combined with anti-tank missiles or 2.75-inch rockets, any larger round affects the shelf life of the integrated rockets and missiles,” Aral explained.
